Understanding Waist-Hip Ratio (WHR)
What is WHR? The waist-hip ratio is calculated by dividing waist measurement by hip measurement. It's used as an indicator of health and obesity. Higher WHR (apple shape) indicates more abdominal fat and higher health risks.
Health Guidelines (WHO & NIDDK) Women: WHR >0.85 indicates higher health risk
Men: WHR >1.0 indicates higher health risk
WHR >0.80 (women) associated with lower fertility
Abdominal fat carries higher health risks than hip/thigh fat
